Nature, Trekking and the Outdoorsby Phiroza J. Tafti

Atop a Dahanu hill “What is this life if full of care, there is no time to stand and stare”. These are the first 2 lines from the poem about “LEISURE’. We all need to relax and what better way than to ‘stand and stare’ in awe at some breathtaking scenery!

It would take you a 15 minute drive from Dahanu to escape the hustle and bustle of civilization and have an opportunity to get in touch with nature and your inner self and allow the calming effect of the countryside to take over. “A walk in the clouds” is how one trekker described the monsoon hike to Bahrot - which is also a revered pilgrim spot for the Zoroastrians! “Awesome” is another comment one hears as you tune into nature and surrender yourself to the elements, be it pelting rain, the scorching sun or the fury of the wind. An experience which is unforgettable.

Trekking the Bahrot hill TREKKING is as enchanting as it is arduous – the challenge and the sense of achievement go side by side. If adventure is what you are looking for, explore the Mahalaxmi mountain for pathways besides the regular stairs and test your outdoor skills. Highly recommended come two serene picnic spots minus the tourists (do take your own picnic basket). These are two dams easily accessible from Dahanu - the Sakhra Dam towards Vangaon to the south and the Aswali Dam towards Bordi to the north. A photographers delight, the sunset reflecting in the lakes and the forested surrounding hills whistling with the chirping of the birds, they give you a chance to observe varied aquatic life in bubbling brooks and wade in the refreshing cool waters!

This natural environment also offers the opportunity to spot colourful butterflies, slithery snails, dragonflies, beetles and shimmering spider webs to name a few of the remarkable designs in nature. A hidden treasure for you to explore and discover at your own pace and inclination .You can work up a sweat or totally relax, the choice is yours.

Come and enjoy the magic of the changing seasons with the dramatic changes of colours and smells, blossoms and textures, the parched country side turning green with the first monsoon showers and you will not forget these impressionable experiences for a long, long time to come!
